AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour partners with smart USA for “The smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach”

The tournament, scheduled for Oct. 17-20 south of the Huntington Beach Pier, will be known as the “smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach.”
The AVP is a leading lifestyle sports and entertainment company that produces, markets and distributes professional beach volleyball events. Founded in 1983, it was acquired by new ownership in 2012 and put on a tour in 2013 featuring seven tournaments across the country, including next week’s season finale in Huntington Beach.
The AVP exemplifies a young, affluent and aspirational lifestyle, featuring up-and-coming players as well as iconic athletes like three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings, 2012 Olympic silver medalists April Ross and Jen Kessy, Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers and two-time Olympians Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb.

Fans attending the smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach will get to explore and enjoy smart vehicles within the context of the world-class beach party environment typical of an AVP tournament. During key matches on stadium court, smart vehicles will be used as player boxes, the home base of teams during competition - where players rest during timeouts and between matches. During the three-day tournament, AVP fans will be able to test the speed of their serves and watch replays with smart’s interactive serve simulator, win promotional items and more. smart vehicles wrapped with an AVP beach theme will also be on display throughout the tournament grounds.
The smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach will feature 16 two-player men’s teams and 16 two-player women’s teams battling for $200,000 in prize money from Oct. 18-20, preceded by one-day open qualifying tournaments for men and women on Oct. 17. The tournament will be played just south of the Huntington Beach Pier (101 Main St., Huntington Beach, CA 92648) in one of Southern California’s most iconic beach cities.
Fans attending the smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach will be treated to four days of world-class beach volleyball competition featuring Olympic champions and world-renowned athletes competing in an unmatched beach-party atmosphere filled with food, music and interactive activities.
General admission to the smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach is free, and VIP tickets for Club AVP are available for $20 per day at www.avp.com. Club AVP tickets offer fans exclusive access to an elevated and shaded private box lounge with exceptional views of all the action on the stadium court.
Sunday’s men’s and women’s finals will be televised live on CBS Sports Network starting at 3 p.m. PT. Prior matches Friday-Sunday will be streamed live at www.avp.com through a partnership with CBS Interactive.
