Sincere thanks to everyone in Salt Lake City from the AVP.
It’s been nearly 48 hours since our first tournament of the 2013 season wrapped up with April Ross, Jen Kessy, Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal being crowned champions of the AVP Salt Lake City Open, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t still buzzing with excitement over an amazing event!
The exhaustion still lingers for our staff and all the partners that helped us put on our first event of the season, but we couldn’t he happier with the results. In a city that is hundreds of miles from the nearest beach, the fans couldn’t have been more eager to embrace the sport of beach volleyball. More than 8,500 people walked through our gates into Liberty Park during the three-day tournament, and even with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees each day, they enthusiastically supported our players and provided an electric atmosphere from the first-round matches through Sunday’s finals.
For the overwhelming support from Salt Lake City’s terrific fan base, we’d like to say THANK YOU! Without the fans, we couldn’t do what we do, and we think that the reception we received in the AVP’s first event in Salt Lake City in our 30-year history warrants strong consideration for us coming back for years to come.
Of course, we couldn’t have put on such a great event without the support of many others. First and foremost among those is Frank Tusieseina, our local tournament organizer who along with a dedicated support staff put in countless hours to make this tournament a smashing success.
Our sincere thanks also goes out to the following: Mayor Ralph Becker, the Salt Lake City Parks Department, America First Credit Union, Staker Parson Companies, Hapari Swimwear, Whole Foods, Rubio’s, Innovative Motors, Gold’s Gym, Rockwell Watches, Utah Sports Commission, Miller Lite, Aces Athletics, Marriott City Center, Orvin Apparel, The Sports Mall, Wasatch Beach Volleyball, University of Utah, Primary Children’s Hospital, the Salt Lake Bees, Utah Olympic Legacy, Richter 7, Simmons Media Group, KUTV CBS-2, ABC-4, FOX-13, KSL-5, Park City TV, the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret News, the Provo Daily Herald, the Ogden Standard-Examiner and 1280 The Zone.
Of course, the support of our national sponsors – Barefoot Wine, Kingston HyperX and Wilson – provide us the foundation to make it all possible.
As we prepare for the remaining six stops on the 2013 AVP Tour, we’re doing so from an amazing starting point. We speak for our entire staff and all the players when we say “Thank you, Salt Lake City!”
