2015 Seattle Men’s Champs Unable to Defend Title

 |
Ryan's ankle on TwitterDue to a severe ankle injury suffered in practice this week, Ryan Doherty will be unable to compete in the 2016 Seattle Open. He and his partner, John Mayer, currently hold the Seattle Open title – defeating Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena in a 3-set battle in 2015 – but will be unable to defend that title this year.

Ryan is expected to be out a few weeks and although we hate to see “The Avatar” on the sidelines, he’s handling this injury with his usual positivity and humor.

“At a practice with Phil [this week], I jumped to block and was blinded by a glare off his head, causing me to twist my ankle when I landed. (I didn’t make contact with anyone or do anything crazy, just one of those accidents that happen when you play on a shifting surface). Really bummed I can’t be out in Seattle to defend the title, but I am going to do everything I can to heal up quickly and be back for the next one.”
