AVP Salt Lake City Open Recap

 |

While there were a lot of partner changes on the women’s side before the Salt Lake City Open, this did not affect the finals. For the third time in a row this AVP season, April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings met Lauren Fendrick and Brooke sweat in the finals. April and Kerri won their third AVP title in a row winning the match 21-16, 21-15.

On the men’s side, Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal did not play in the event to give Phil some rest due to a minor injury. This gave way to some new faces in the finals this season. Ryan Doherty and Nick Lucena made their first final’s appearance of the season, but fell short 17-21, 21-17, 17-15. For Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb, they had their hometown cheering for them the whole way. The crowd went crazy for them as they won their first AVP title of the season.

The Salt Lake City Open was one of the best crowds this season! Thank you to all the fans and staff for helping make this event a great one! The season continues this week at the Manhattan Beach Open presented by smart. It’s the Wimbledon of beach volleyball, so you’re definitely not going to want to miss the action this weekend. With a 32 team draw, there will be tons of matches to see. See you on the beach!
