It was an exciting weekend for USA Volleyball this weekend!
In Florence, Italy, the USA Men’s Indoor National Team won the FIVB World League gold medal yesterday defeating the world’s No. 1 Brazil 3-1 (31-29,21-25,25-20,25-23). The only other time USA won World League was in 2008, the year they won the gold medal at the Olympics in Beijing.
In The Hague, Netherlands, Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhausser won silver at the FIVB Grand Slam. Previous to this event, Dalhausser and Rosenthal had won the last two Grand Slam stops in Norway and Switzerland. Sunday’s final ended their 20-match winning streak.
Other US teams playing at this event were Ryan Doherty / Nick Lucena (5th place), John Hyden / Tri Bourne (9th place), and Casey Patterson / Jake Gibb (9th place). On the women’s side, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross finished 9th along with Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat. Emily Day and Summer Ross finished 17th.
The next $1M Grand Slam is this week in Long Beach, CA, and the next AVP event will take place in Salt Lake City, UT, August 8-10th.
