Angela “Benny” Bensend was an outside hitter at LSU, where she played in all but six matches in her career. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and as a senior to the All-SEC First Team. The Tigers played in the NCAA Tournament all four years Bensend played there. She graduated with a degree in Sport Administration.
Bensend has one older sister, Jenni. Her aunt, Kari, played volleyball at Oklahoma.
If you weren’t playing professional volleyball, what would your job be?
I most likely would be a collegiate volleyball coach (indoor or beach) or I would love to work the administrative side of professional sports. Maybe one day for the NBA or even the AVP.
What are your pre-game rituals?
I try not to have too many rituals, however, I usually listen to music at some point. Since I am very intense, I try to listen to calming music like The Weeknd’s first album. Ever since I played indoor at LSU, I always have to have gum. I probably go through 2 packs a tournament weekend and it’s always 5’s “Peppermint Cobalt” flavor.
What is the most rewarding piece of advice you ever received?
To never stop learning. You are never too old to educate and learn new lessons in volleyball, or life. Make sure to have a growth mindset in every aspect of life!
