Heather Hughes attended Loyola Marymount University, where she played opposite hitter. Hughes earned all-West Coast Conference honors her first three years and was named co-Female Athlete of the Year during her sophomore season.
Prior to her senior year, Hughes partnered with LMU-teammate, Emily Day, and made her AVP debut, qualifying for the main draw, becoming the lowest seed to ever do so. 2013 was Hughes’ most successful of her career, managing three 5th place finishes. Although Hughes won an AVP Young Guns event with Emily Day in 2010, she is still looking for her first AVP Tour victory. In 2011, USA Volleyball named Hughes as part of the Beach Team of the Year.
Outside of volleyball, Hughes works in Real Estate and as a middle school and private volleyball coach. Hughes is currently engaged to Andy McGuire. In 2014, Heather will be teaming up with Christal Engle.
If you weren’t playing professional volleyball, what would your job be?
I’m still asking myself this question. I think I have finally found my calling as a mom.
Who is your go-to music artist?
Coldplay and they always will be.
What motivated you to pursue volleyball?
My sister was doing it and I like to do everything she does.
