In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. Luckily the situation isn’t quite so dire when it comes to the competitive world of beach volleyball, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some seriously talented athletes out on the sand with some major power plays up their sleeves.
With the series finale of the hit HBO series upon us, we decided to see how some of our favorites would fair in Westeros. Here are our top picks for AVP-style Game of Thrones:
Brienne of Tarth is honorable, she’s loyal, and she’s intimidating in a way that makes her stand out. She’s much more than talking the talk, she walks that walk all the way which makes Emily Day the perfect fit to be our recently appointed Knight. Both Brienne and Emily have a heart of gold and both are widely respected by their peers.
Arya hones her craft. She’s a highly trained assassin that sees her target and annihilates it and that’s why Brandie Wilkerson is our pick for the youngest Stark sister. Her athletics and precision focus definitely makes her a key player to shake up the AVP tour. What do we say to the god of losing? “Not today.”
Daenerys is an outsider of the seven kingdoms that has no problem with reclaiming what she believes is rightfully hers. Though seemingly calm, she has a powerful rage inside of her that makes her incredibly capable even outside of her environment, not unlike that of Sarah Pavan. Pavan is repping Team Canada on the world stage, and is a newer addition to the AVP tour. She’s resourceful, intelligent, and fiercely competitive. No dragons that we know of, but she’s just getting started.
Sansa learned early on how to be cunning and how to outsmart any opponent. With her wit and keen eye on her surroundings, not to mention her trademark red hair, Kelly Claes is the perfect elder Stark sister in our AVP Westeros.
Jon Snow does incredible things for a man that supposedly knows nothing and he is genuinely loved by all who have witnessed his strength of character. That’s why Jake Gibb is our true King of the North because he’s not just a strong contender, he’s a phenomenal leader as well.
Jamie Lannister has gone through a metamorphosis like none other, and his passionate loyalty and natural leadership makes him the perfect fit for Maddison McKibbin. Both are loyal, both are strong, and hey – both are lefties!
Tyrion is proof that big things come in small packages. His wit is incomparable and his strategy as sharp as the enemy’s sword, which makes Taylor Crabb our perfect pick for the Lannister we’ve all been rooting for since day one. Crabb may be smaller than some of the other players, but his heart and his drive is unmatched.
The Mountain is aptly named. This man of few words is powerful both physically and mentally and that’s why Phil Dalhausser is easily our pick. Both are huge, both are good at what they do, and both keep their emotions close to their chest when playing the field.
Thankfully, we don’t have a Cersei so no one has to worry about any green bombs going off, but it is interesting to see how the competitiveness of the Iron Throne weighs against the competitiveness of the AVP.
