Association of Volleyball Professionals launches AVP First as part of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour’s developmental structure
COSTA MESA, Calif. (May 22, 2015) – The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) announced today that the organization has expanded its volleyball developmental model, launching AVP First as the tour’s signature non-profit youth program in an effort to further the development and participation of the sport among young athletes and families.
“We are proud to introduce AVP First as part of the AVP’s developmental programming,” said AVP Managing Partner Donald Sun. “In introducing AVP First, our goal is to offer anyone that has interest in volleyball an inspiring platform to try the sport for the first time, or further develop their skills under the direction of some of the world’s top pros and coaches. We hope that young athletes will take the opportunity to be a part of the movement that will ensure a bright future for the AVP tour and the game of volleyball.”
AVP First, which serves as the primary youth programming arm under the AVP umbrella, has been developed as a way to grow the participation, skill level and fan base of volleyball by bringing high-level education, first-class programs, competitive experiences and grassroots opportunities to all children and their families regardless of their economic status in communities across the United States.
AVP First will offer a variety of programs geared toward both community outreach and high-level development, offering young athletes of all backgrounds and experience the opportunity to play the sport of volleyball under the direction of highly qualified and experienced player development leadership appointed by the AVP.
In its inaugural year, AVP First will serve hundreds of youth participants through a series of beach clinics and community corner events in each city where the AVP holds a tournament – beginning with this weekend’s AVP New Orleans Open – as well as a summer beach academy, The Manhattan Beach Junior Invitational, which will take place alongside the AVP Manhattan Beach Open (one of the sport’s most prestigious events), and a number of indoor training camps.
AVP First will serve as the youth development arm and initial entry point for youth players in the tri-level developmental structure of the AVP which includes AVP First, AVPNext and the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.
