Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal made it a back-to-back FIVB Beach Volleyball Tour wins this past weekend when they won Gold at the Gstaad Grand Slam. In the gold medal match, Dalhausser and Rosenthal beat the Brazilians 2-0 (21-17, 21-17). “We keep getting better,” Rosenthal said, “When Phil can serve and block like that and I’m picking up tough balls at the back we’re going to be a pretty tough team to beat.” It was also a special win for Dalhausser as he was born in Switzerland and a lot of his family lives there.
Nick Lucena and Ryan Doherty also beat Germany 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) to win the Bronze medal. This medal is the duo’s second World Tour medal of their first season together having won silver at the Berlin Grand Slam.
The next stop on the World Tour is the Transavia Hague Grand Slam (July 15-20th).
US teams also competed in the NORCECA event in North Bay, Canada this weekend. Tealle Hunkus and Kim Dicello won their third Gold medal this season in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit (21-11, 26-24). Ali Daley and Kendra Vanzwieten also brought home the Bronze medal winning their 3rd place match 21-17, 21-11). Congrats!
The AVP sends Summer Ross and her family our condolences. Her mother, Kathy Ross, passed away while she was playing in Gstaad. As she travels to Hague, we wish her the best and know that her mother is watching over her and would be so proud.
