Troy discovered his passion for beach volleyball after watching the 2012 Olympics. He taught himself the sport by studying classic AVP matches on YouTube featuring legends such as Sinjin Smith, Randy Stoklos, Tim Hovland, Mike Dodd, and his personal favorite, Karch Kiraly. Despite picking up the sport later than many professionals, Troy began training seriously for the AVP in 2016, made his first Main Draw in 2017, and enjoyed a breakout season in 2018.
In early 2019, Troy and the McKibbin brothers formed the first USA Snow Volleyball team, earning gold and silver medals in FIVB competition. The group later expanded to include several top AVP athletes and went on to become the first-ever 4 vs. 4 World Champions. Troy competed for the LA Launch in 2024 before joining the Austin Aces for the 2026 AVP League season. He also captured titles at the 2025 AVP Denver and AVP Waupaca Contender events.
Before becoming a professional athlete, Troy once volunteered as a ball boy at an AVP event in Huntington Beach. Because of that experience, he makes it a point to interact with and thank volunteers whenever possible, believing you never know where their own journey in the sport may lead.
