Jake began playing indoor volleyball at 14 in 9th grade at Saugus High School. Jake played indoor at Pierce College and then transferred to UC Santa Cruz. He pursued beach volleyball more seriously at UCSC, winning many local (California Beach Volleyball Association) CBVA tournaments. Jake made a big push for AVP tournaments in the summer of 2015 but was unable to find success. After that season, Jake took a step back from beach volleyball to pursue a career and raise his son. In 2020, the Dietrich family moved to the South Bay, and the stars aligned for him to pursue the sport again. In 2022, he qualified for AVP Hermosa alongside Hagen Smith, where they entered as the 16 seed. The pair started strong by taking down the 1 seed in their first-round match, following that with yet another win against the 9 seed later that day. In his first AVP season, Jake took all top 10 finishes in Pro and Gold events–including a 3rd place at AVP Chicago.
Jake is on the board of directors of the CBVA and runs tournaments at Will Rogers State Beach. He spends most of his time off the court playing with his two kids, consuming alarming amounts of carbs, and watching volleyball with his wife, Lisa. Jake’s hobbies include playing League of Legends when Lisa lets him, operating the dishwasher incorrectly, and roasting his own coffee beans.
