Jake Urrutia

Jake played indoor volleyball growing up and throughout his time at Rutgers University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He fell in love with beach volleyball when he attended his first AVP as an 11-year-old when the tour came to Belmar, New Jersey. He visited California in 2018 and knew instantly that he wanted to live in the South Bay to pursue a beach volleyball career. Jake’s first time qualifying for an AVP was in Hermosa Beach in 2019, and his best tournament result was gold at a NORCECA tournament in the Cayman Islands in November of 2022.

Jake wants fans to know that he is 50% Colombian and is proud to always represent his home state, New Jersey. His motto is, “Enjoy the process and never give up on what you want, even if the results are not there in that exact moment!” When he is not at the beach practicing, you can find Jake at the gym, camping, or riding his motorcycle.
