Paul played indoor volleyball at Long Beach State University, where he was named NCAA Co-Player of the Year in 2008. Prior to transitioning to beach volleyball, Paul was also an alternate for the U.S. indoor team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Since moving to the sand, Paul has established himself as a top AVP competitor. In 2022, he and Miles Partain captured their first AVP title at the Atlanta Gold Series. Later that year, he teamed with Taylor Crabb to win a Challenge event in Dubai. He competed for the Austin Aces in 2024 and now returns to the Dallas Dream for the 2026 AVP League season alongside former partner Miles Partain.

Off the court, Paul is a proud father of four sons. His favorite food is eggplant, especially Chinese smashed eggplant and various eggplant-based dishes. He enjoys staying active through running (in moderation to protect his knees), mountain biking, swimming, and bodyboarding.
