McKibbin was a three-time state champion at Punahou High in Honolulu. He was named to the Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list as well as the Volleyball Magazine All-American Team.  In 2007, McKibbin was chosen as the Honolulu Division II Co-Player of the Year in basketball, sharing that honor with fellow AVP pro Tri Bourne.  McKibbin and Bourne won the gold medal at the 2007 AAU Junior National Beach Volleyball Under-20 Championships.  Then, McKibbin went on to University of Southern California to play indoor where he was a three-year starting setter.

McKibbin’s brother, Maddison, also attended USC and was an opposite/outside hitter.  After the two graduated from USC, they played professionally indoor over in Europe before transitioning to the beach game.  Today, the brothers play together on the AVP Pro Tour and are known as the ‘Bearded Brothers.’
