Seain was first introduced to volleyball by his dad, who played on the National Scottish indoor team. He didn’t really see beach volleyball, though, until a family vacation to Siesta Key, Florida. He learned to play beach right next to the St. Andrews Golf Course, the birthplace of golf known for its prolific winds. He then joined the Great British Beach team when he was 16 and simultaneously attended college at the University of Bath. He returned to indoor due to funding and played professionally for about 10 years, just missing the 2012 Olympics as a libero. The highlight of his beach career was qualifying and competing at the Commonwealth Games in Australia alongside Robin Miedybrodzki.
Seain wishes that fans knew he is 100% Scottish. Since being in America, he’s felt warmly welcomed into the AVP family. His favorite AVP memory is playing on Center Court in Manhattan Beach, coached by Mike Dodd, with his wife, mother-in-law, and newborn son in the stands. A book he’d recommend to a friend is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
