Sean Rosenthal attended Redondo Union High School, but never played organized volleyball; instead, opting to play on the beach. He chose not to attend college and pursued his professional career instead. Rosenthal made his AVP debut in 1997 as a 17-year old, finishing 49th. In 2000, Rosenthal truly began his AVP career, participating in eight events with a best finish of 17th place.
Since his debut, Rosenthal has 11 AVP tour victories, with his most recent taking place in 2013 at Salt Lake City. In 2002, Rosenthal earned the AVP award for Best Server and in 2007 won Best Defensive Player. Rosenthal is also a two-time Olympian with Jake Gibb, participating in the Beijing and London Olympics where they finished 5th both years.
Rosenthal has also had a very successful international career, winning 7 FIVB tournaments, including five in the past two seasons. He was named FIVB Top Rookie in 2006, FIVB Most Outstanding in 2012, and also won the FIVB Tour Championship with Jake Gibb and was named FIVB Team of the Year in 2012. Rosenthal has also eclipsed the $1 million mark in career earnings.
2014: Sean Rosenthal tied for 3rd at the AVP St. Petersburg Open with partner Phil Dalhausser.
2015: Rosenthal played four AVP events with three different partners, with his best finish a second alongside Dalhausser in the season opener. On the FIVB Tour, Rosenthal played in eight tournaments with three different partners, getting his best finish of ninth with Dalhausser.
