Brunner attended UC Santa Barbara, where he played middle blocker. Brunner was named Team Captain in 2008, 1st Team All-American in 2007, and hold the UCSB record for single season hitting percentage. He earned a Bachelors degree in Philosophy and is currently working on getting a Masters in Accounting.
Brunner made his AVP debut in Manhattan Beach in 2007, when he lost in the qualifier. In 2013, he enjoyed the best season of his career. Brunner won the AVP Championships at Huntington Beach and was named the Best Blocker in the AVP. He also ended the season with five top-5 finishes. Theo is engaged to Ioanna Klironomou. In 2014, Brunner will be teaming with Todd Rogers for the AVP Tour.
Favorite thing about beach volleyball: “The physically and mentally demanding nature of the sport.”
Role Models: “My father, who instilled his love for volleyball in me at a young age, and my first 2 partners Ben Brockman and Aaron Mansfield, both of whom were good friends that made it fun to learn and play the game of beach volleyball.”
Something people would be surprised to know about you: “I was a tap dancer for 10 years growing up.”
2014: Theo Brunner finished tied for 5th at the AVP St. Petersburg Open with partner Todd Rogers.
2015: Brunner played just two AVP events, both with Sean Rosenthal, getting a best of fifth. On the FIVB Tour, Brunner played eight times with Nick Lucena and three alongside Sean Rosenthal. Brunner and Lucena played in two FIVB semifinals, with a best of fourth.
