We started the season with flair in Miami Beach, right in the heart of the legendary South Beach Spring Break. Stadium Court sat by the shore while our outer courts lay under the shade of palm trees next to Ocean Avenue.
Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson took top billing on the Women’s side, but there were some truly epic matches to get there. Stadium Court on Saturday afternoon was a battle, with Lili/Larissa besting the eventual winners in straight sets and Sarah Sponcil/Terese Cannon winning a barnburner against new team Julia Scoles/Betsi Flint. The losers of those two matches would go on to become Finalists, just showing the tenacity of the elite AVP teams and the fun of a double-elimination bracket. (Photo Credit: Bryan Malloch)
Taylor and Taylor got their third AVP victory in a row with their Miami Open win (The duo finished 2022 with the Phoenix Championship title and followed it up with a Tour Series victory in Huntington Beach). In his Winner’s Interview, Taylor Sander said that they played some ugly volleyball, but they righted the ship just in time. They came back big in the Final against Miles Evans and Chase Budinger, winning in straight sets 21-14, 21-19. (Photo Credit: Bryan Malloch)
