New Orleans 2023 will forever be remembered as the tournament with the weather dominating Saturday on Stadium Court – and the hardest ball to shag, ever. But that’s not all that happened. Lousianna fans were electric, coming out in droves before, during, and after the wind and rain. They stayed late into the night on Saturday as we played under the lights (while the AVP Team rebuilt Stadium Court) and were back first thing in the morning to support their Lousianna locals in Taryn Kloth, Kristen Nuss, Evan Cory, and Toni Rodriguez.
NOLA was the first AVP Pro Series win together in five years for Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng. Not only did they claim the title, but they also crushed Canadian rivals Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson 21-9, 21-18. Cheng/Hughes hit .609 in that match and held their opponents to .162. Cheng had 3 aces, and Hughes 14 digs. (Photo Credit: A-Game Photography/Mpu Dinani)
Tri Bourne and Chaim Schalk also got their first win as a team, a massive boon to their confidence. Bourne had 4 blocks, and Chaim Schalk had 17 digs in their three-set battle against Troy Field and Billy Allen in the Finals. (Photo Credit: A-Game Photography / Mpu Dinani)
